![]() | A database normalisation workbook for studentsAt last!! A workbook dedicated to getting all students to understand and apply the difficult topic of database normalisation!! Pupils are shown by example what the potential problems are with flat files. They then look at ER modelling in some detail and its role in database design, focusing particularly on how ER diagrams and normalisation techniques are used together to produce a final design. Students are then introduced gently to the concepts of normalisation.
Students are shown the mechanical nature of normalisation by example in this 42 page workbook. Examples are clearly explained at every step in the normalisation process. Pupils are then set a series of normalisation tasks. These start with straightforward examples that make comprehensive use of templates and detailed commentaries and clarifications to guide students through the logical steps towards the solutions. As the students' skills, knowledge and understanding develop, more challenging problems are set. Students are given hints and help where appropriate and the detailed answers to all tasks are given at the back of the workbook! Students fill in all of their answers in the appropriate place in the workbook and then use this for future revision.
This workbook can be used for self-study but as always, students will benefit from having a teacher to guide and encourage them through it. The workbook will take between four and six double lessons to get through, including homework, depending upon the students. Teachers will find the workbook has been designed to contain all the material they need to get their students completely confident in producing normalised databases. | |
